Huawei’s Mate 10 Pro is already heavily discounted on its first day of US preorders

Huawei’s new flagship phone, the Mate 10 Pro, is available for preorder starting today in the US, but its launch is already off to a rough start. The Chinese company took a hit in January when AT&T and Verizon pulled out of deals to carry the Mate 10 Pro in their stores, reportedly due to US government pressure. Major retailers and a crowd-shopping site are offering discounts on the flagship already.

The Mate 10 Pro has a 6-inch display with a 2160 x 1080 OLED screen and an 18:9 aspect ratio, thin bezels, 4GB of RAM, and options for 64GB or 128GB SSD. The device is powered by a Kirin 970 CPU that was developed in-house, comes with a 4,000mAh battery. The phone also has dual rear-facing cameras: a 20-megapixel color sensor, and a 12-megapixel monochrome sensor. It uses USB-C, and it’ll ship with Android 8.0 Oreo.

Although Huawei will sell unlocked versions of the Mate 10 Pro online, the deals with Verizon and AT&T would have raised the company’s reputation in the US. Huawei has historically sold its phones online for those in the US, hindering the company’s mainstream presence. With the Mate Pro 10, major retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Microsoft, Newegg, and B&H will carry the device.

If you’re looking for a deal, you can preorder between now and February 17th to get a $150 gift card from the retailer where you bought the phone, according to a press release. Massdrop, a site that offers group discounts when enough people order a specific item, is offering a $100 discount on the Mate 10 Pro, cutting the price down to $699.

For those seeking more luxury, Huawei is also offering the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 10, which will be available online on major retailer sites for $1,255 starting on February 18th. To partially explain its premium price, the Porsche Design has a diamond black body, 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage.

The Mate 10 Pro will start shipping on February 18th, during the weekend after Lunar New Year. It’s available in blue or gray, with a brown option coming soon. Both the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro have been available in over a dozen countries outside of the US since last fall.
